Living in Style {more writing adventures}

This month I had the pleasure of writing my second article for the May 2012 issue of a local magazine, Berks County Living (see details on my first article here). This month, I wrote fondly about the house I grew up in. I decided to focus on a local theme, drawing attention to the elements in the house that are native to Pennsylvania.

My parents were photographed for the article, surrounded by the quirky, eccentric things that make their house a very personal, special place.

In the writing and photography (by local photographer John Secoges), we explored the juxtaposition between turn-of-the-century antiques (most of which are from PA) and modern art (featuring many artists originally from Pennsylvania).

Etsy Picks: {Happy Mother's Day}

I am, admittedly, a Mother's Day procrastinator. Not sure why, I guess this holiday just always seems to sneak up on me. If you're in the same boat, these Etsy Picks of the Week might get you thinking early about some kick-ass cards and a shower of affection that will make your Mom feel like you've been thinking about the best way to celebrate her awesome-ness all year long.

I also really like this little pennant. If you go the breakfast-in-bed-route (which I strongly suggest for any future children I have in years to come), it would be a cute little thing to hang between bed posts to make the morning feel festive. Could also be a beautiful thing to hang on your Mom's front door on Mother's Day.

However you choose to celebrate the moms and motherly figures in your life, do it with love and appreciation!

Haring's Party of Life lives on {Happy 54th Keith!}

(this photo of me was taken by @maskrenter

Last weekend I went to a really wonderful exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum that highlighted Keith Haring's artwork from 1978-1982 (details here). Out of dozens of Haring exhibits I've seen in my lifetime (it's kind of a family tradition to seek them out where we can), this was hands-down one of my favorites.

(this photo is taken from my personal instagram)

The curator, Raphaela Platow, did a fabulous job telling the story of how Keith's work came to take on such iconic, consistent, simple characters.

Spring Wedding Attire {Turquoise Fever}

I channeled a little 70's vibe to a recent spring wedding.

I love adorning gifts with trimmings from the garden. This is an azalea flower with a geranium leaf and simple gold ribbon.  I think it makes gifts feel more personal and special (pending the gift is opened before any wilting occurs!).
